ANTONIO “TONY” AROCHO is the founder and principal attorney of the Arocho Law Office (ALO).

Experience:

Nonprofit & Association Experience

  • He has more than 25 years of combined experience at the international, national and local level in advocacy, policy, fundraising and development, managerial, and constituent/member services concerns of nonprofit organizations, NGOs, or trade associations.

  • In addition, he has worked with a variety of nonprofit organizations helping to structure start-ups, restructure non-profits and develop fundraising campaigns. He has counseled on a wide range of corporate, governance, real estate, labor, charitable giving, and other nonprofit matters.

  • His national experience includes serving as the Executive Director/COO of the Hispanic National Bar Association, and Vice President (Membership, Advocacy and Organizing) of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition.  He has also served as a Community Development Manager at the National Council of La Raza where he provided technical assistance to community-based organizations and development corporations around the nation. 

  • He also served as the interim Chief Operating Officer of then newly formed Pennsylvania Association of Latino Organizations.  Also he founded and served as the first president of the U.S. Virgin Islands Latino Chamber of Commerce.

  • Upon a request of the President/C.E.O. of Associacion de Puertorriquenos en Marcha of Philadelphia (PA), he provided technical and managerial advice, and also served as Special Assistant to the President, Interim Vice-President for Health & Human Services, and Vice-President for Human Services.

Government Relations Experience

  • He finds the halls of government easy to navigate and he has learned first hand that while all politics are local, issues frequently need to be confronted at the federal level.
  • He even served as a special assistant to the US House of Representatives Delegate (Congressman) from the U.S.Virgin Islands. 
  • He now uses his past experiences with federal and territorial policy makers and agencies, and in trade associations, to engage in public policy activities for his clients.  As a result of his professional and personal relationships with lawmakers and policy makers, he has found that these advantages can result in more effective and productive client representation.  

Litigation & Administrative Law Experience

  • He has substantial experience in litigation and administrative law, including appointment as an Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Virgin Islands, public interest (agricultural) labor attorney and governmental attorney-advisor. 
  • While working for the government he tried many cases, including tort, contract & procurement, medical malpractice, injunctions, labor and employment matters.
  • He has served as a legal advisor and hearing officer at the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia.

Labor & Employment Law Experience

  • He served the legal needs of migrant and seasonal agricultural workers for almost five years through direct representation in civil matters regarding employment and wage issues.
  • In addition while he served a detail as the Director of Labor Relations for the U.S. Virgin Islands and legal counsel to the Commissioner of Labor.  He was responsible for administering and enforcing local and federal labor and employment laws governing private employers and employees throughout the Territory of the U.S. Virgin Islands. 
  • In his capacity as Director of Labor Relations, he served as the authorized representative between the Virgin Islands Department of Labor and the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  Pursuant to its workshare agreement with the EEOC, the Department's Division of Labor Relations shared concurrent jurisdiction to enforce Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, The Age Discrimination in Employment Act, The Equal Pay Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. 
  • His enforcement and oversight authority as Director of Labor Relations also included wage claims, employment disputes and unfair labor practice charges pertaining to the Fair Labor Standards Act, National Labor Relations Act, Employee Retirement Income Security Act, Virgin Islands Discrimination in Employment Act, Virgin Islands Civil Rights Act, Virgin Islands Wrongful Discharge Act, and Child Labor Law.

Antonio "Tony" Arocho has degrees from Seton Hall University School of Law (Juris Doctor) and Rider College (Bachelor of Science in Commerce in Business Administration). 

He is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, US Virgin Islands, US Court of International Trade, and US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit
